Self care is always at the top of my list of favorite things to do, whether its a day at the salon getting a Brazilian wax, pedi and mani or a day of watching Netflix and indulging in my favorite food! One of my favorite self care must-dos is a monthly moroccan bath! Living in Abu Dhabi, moroccan baths are easily accessible and CHEAP! Groupon is my best friend when it comes to finding new places to have the experience of a moroccan bath.
What is the process during a moroccan bath?
The experience
Sooooo basically you go to a salon where there is a large room. The room will have the scrub down table and maybe a bath tub. Depending on who does your bath, you first lay down like a beach whale bucky naked on a table. You can wear undies if you prefer, but girlllaaa….. just take them off and let it allll hang out! Next the salon tech covers your body with Moroccan soap, which is black in color and feels like jelly on your body. You then sit in steam until the body pores open.
My favorite part of the whole moroccan bath is when you get to sit in the hot steam like a marinating turkey..
You know the one your grandma spends two days to prep for Thanksgiving with pounds of butter and seasonings? Now imagine you are that turkey, now in the oven on broil.. This is usually where I think about the fact that I’m bucky naked, in all my glory, on a table getting prepared to be scrubbed down by a stranger. I start to plan my exit if things get too awkward for me. The tech usually leaves you at this time to your peace, marination and quiet while feeling the relaxing steam.
Here comes the fun part!
Its time for the scrub down!!!!!!
The scrub down includes a very heavy duty loofah. This is the loofah you wish you could use everyday on your skin. Its like the sand paper they use to sand wood, the loofa has a texture that is hard and bumpy, you will become very familiar with the feel of the loofah, you and the loofah will become one…
The tech is very particular about getting every crack, cranny and fold on your body outside of your little girl area. I’m talking about the crack under your boob, your underarms, behind your ears, your belly button and more…..
She takes her time to scrub each part of you and you can literally see the dirt and dead skin coming off your body. Its incredible to see how much build up of dead skin you have, especially if you’ve never had a moroccan bath. Don’t be embarrassed or question your own cleanliness habits, This is part of the experience!
If you don’t want your hair to get wet let the tech know or wear a shower cap. She will even gently scrub your face. wash and condition your hair for you if you want. After she scrubs your whole body down from front to back, you stand up shining like a prized glazed turkey straight out of the oven!
You are clean sis! bask in all your exfoliated glory!
This is where you feel like you’re brand new and all your sins are forgiven. During this time if you’re still wearing panties the spa lady will usually ask you to take them off so that YOU can wash your own genital area. Some moroccan bath places have a shower in the area or they have a shower hose.
All done!!
After I have a moroccan bath I usually feel sooo relaxed, my skin is literally as smooth as a babies butt. NO LIE! You smell amazing and every part of your body is clean and exfoliated!
i’m interested in this moroccan bath you speak of sis…. But……
Why Should I Get a Moroccan Bath?
They’re extremely relaxing! Soaking up the steam, getting rid of all your dead skin and being rubbed down in beautiful scents is what dreams are made of.
You deserve a deep cleansing every once in awhile! The amount of dead skin, impurities and dirt you have on your body from every day life will shock you! Why not have a fresh clean start?
It improves circulation! Increasing your circulation will help your body reduce water retention, detoxify, help your blood flow, aid in healing, and loads more. And Moroccan baths will improve circulation thanks to the vigorous scrubbing and rubbing.
The EXFOLIATION!!!! As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This means that the body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave skin looking dull, rough, and dry. Furthermore, the build-up of dead skin cells can result in excess oil and clogged pores, leading to blemishes and acne. Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective.-The Importance of Exfoliation
How Often Should i Get a MOROCCAN bath?
I try to get a moroccan bath at least once a month. If you want healthy, glowing skin, regular exfoliation is a must, especially the places on your body where you may neglect areas you can’t reach well.
How much is a moroccan bath?
Like most salon services, a Moroccan bath can range in price depending on the class of the salon. In general, most salons in UAE are nice with beautiful clean facilities. I always lean towards getting my moroccan baths when the salon is offering a promotion for a moroccan bath and a spa treatment such as massage. Groupon is my best friend!
Some of my favorite groupon deals!
