Dubai Fashion Week Street Style Trends of 2019

Street style fashion is the most exciting part of any fashion week. It has become a fashion week cultural phenomenon worldwide that is just as important as the runway shows. From designers to celebs, influencers, and everyday people, street style is where most people get their fashion inspo from.

Fashion Week 2019 in Dubai is where people showed up and showed out!

One of the most well known Middle Eastern cities in the world, Dubai did not disappoint when it comes to the fashion scene! Dubai is known for its hot dry climate year-round but that didn’t stop people from stepping out on the streets in some of the hottest fashion trends of Fall 2019 and SHOWING TF OUT!. Over the last couple of years, street fashion in Dubai has moved from less high fashion couture to more urban, hip hop street style mixed with cultural inspiration. One of the reasons I loved attending Fashion Forward week in Dubai was because I was extremely inspired by the trends I saw and cannot wait to experiment with some of these looks for fall and winter!

Here are some of the trends that stood out the most

Rhea Jacobs @therjacobs

Knee High Boots

The higher the boot the closer you’re to God!

The trend of knee-high to thigh-high boots is here to stay even in the Middle East! Slouched or animal printed boots can dress any outfit up. Pair your boots with a mini skirt, bodycon dress, or an oversized blazer and strut your stuff like the real bad bish you’re! But, if heels aren’t your thing and you like to keep it more “cute comfy” this next street style trend is perfect for you…..

Bulky and Colorful Sneakers

I actually love the contrast of a colorful sneaker and a chic look. Imagine a colorful sneaker with a metallic skirt or a long patent leather trench coat with animal print. Plus, the comfort of a sneaker definitely has its benefits when your feet are tired of the constant pain of wearing heels all day. Let me tell you, even the most comfortable heels start to hurt after standing in line, in the heat, waiting for fashion shows all day.

If you’re gonna wear sneakers, stand out!

Oversized Suits and Blazers

Suited and booted is the name of the game! Literally everybody and their momma was wearing an oversized suit or blazer and I was here for every moment of it! The ways you can style a blazer/suit are endless, from a silk dress with a pair of pumps to sneakers with some ripped or mom style jeans. Finding the perfect blazer or suit to fit your style is also fairly easy even on a budget. You can find suits in high-end stores and also second-hand thrift stores. Make sure that when you’re shopping for a blazer/suit, you check both the men and women sections as you don’t want to miss out on a unique find thinking you have to stick to a certain section.

Cross Body Bags and Mini Purses

The smaller the bag, the smaller the fuxks given. This crazy trend all started when Jimon Porte Jacquemus first introduced his mini 3-inch top-handle purse, the Le Sac Chiquito, on the Spring/Summer 2018 runway and everybody lost their “ISH”. Celebs like Rihanna, started wearing the mini bag and the trend skyrocketed, now most designers and stores have some type of mini bag to keep up with this growing trend. Although the mini bag is small, it can be paired with absolutely anything from a matching PJ set to an oversized blazer fit with sneakers. If you can’t afford the Jacqumus bag, go for something more in your budget range from Zara or Missguided.com.

However, If you can’t get with the mini bag trend because you actually want somewhere to put your money and phone, try layering some of your fav crossbody bags or bum belt with multiple compartments.

Matching Patterns or Clashing Patterns

Tala Samman @myfashdiary

If it clashes or matches top to bottom, you’re in there like swim wear. Dont be afraid to stand out, be bold and unique!

Wearing the same pattern throughout your whole outfit has become increasingly popular the last couple of years around the world but especially in the Middle East. This trend is easy to do because it doesn’t take too much thought, you can combine those pieces in your closet that you never thought would look good together or wear the same pattern top to bottom. Don’t be afraid to experiment with bright colors or geometric shapes, the bolder the pattern, the better!

Leather

The leather on leather is another hot trend that’s here to stay. The more shiny the patent leather is, the better! Wear as much leather as you want the top to the bottom and try different leather pieces, like an oversized boyfriend shirt or leather cargo pants. This season leather is also coming out in different colors such as metallic, red, or green, pair your leather pieces with your favorite sneakers or knee-high boots and always remember:

Its never to hot for leather! Even in the Middle East!
